Responsibilities for Medical Assistant

  • Receive and direct phone calls, schedule appointments, check-in patients, obtain necessary patient information to file and update patient records, and ensure all forms and consents are completed by patients
  • Check-out patients, assist with referral processing, and arrange laboratory services
  • Prepare patients for examination, take vitals, and record patients’ health history
  • Set-up room for examinations and procedures and assist in specimen collection and tests
  • Prepare equipment and examination rooms, and clean instruments
  • Assist physician or mid-levels with medical treatments, procedures, and exams
  • Manage inventory of medical supplies and equip exam rooms with appropriate supplies

Qualifications for Medical Assistant

  • High school diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited medical assistance certification program preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and other external parties in a courteous and friendly manner at all times
  • Must be detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Firm grasp on medical practices, administrative processes, and organizational policies
  • Knowledge of patient care and examination procedures
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality at all times

Accounts Receivable/Payment Posting and collections Specialist position for MEDICAL PRACTICE will be submitting claims, work insurance denials and A/R, payment posting for medical practice.

Consistently follow up on unpaid claims utilizing monthly aging reports and filing appeals when appropriate to obtain maximum reimbursement. Data entry of all patient demographics, guarantor and insurance information; accurately post payments from RAs and patients, balance to daily deposit. Understand basic coding and use of modifiers.’

Job Summary:

As the Accounts Receivable, Payment Poster, and Collections Specialist, you will play a crucial role in managing the financial aspects of our medical practice. You will be responsible for accurately posting payments, following up on outstanding accounts, and ensuring the timely collection of outstanding balances. This position requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, insurance companies, and internal team members.

Key Responsibilities:

Payment Posting:

  • Accurately post and reconcile payments received from patients and insurance companies.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in payment amounts or coding.
  • Ensure all payments are posted in a timely manner.

Accounts Receivable Management:

  • Monitor accounts receivable aging reports and identify delinquent accounts.
  • Initiate collection efforts, including sending statements, making phone calls, and sending collection letters.
  • Negotiate payment plans with patients when necessary.
  • Document all collection activities in the practice management system.

Insurance Claims Processing:

  • Review denied claims and resubmit them with appropriate corrections.
  • Follow up on unpaid insurance claims to ensure timely reimbursement.
  • Collaborate with the billing team to resolve claim issues and denials.

Patient Communication:

  • Provide excellent customer service to patients regarding their accounts.
  • Answer patient inquiries and address billing-related concerns in a professional and compassionate manner.
  • Educate patients on insurance coverage, payment options, and financial assistance programs.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate records of all payment transactions, collection efforts, and account notes.
  • Generate and analyze reports related to accounts receivable and collections performance.
  • Collaborate with management to develop strategies for improving revenue cycle management.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in medical billing, payment posting, and collections.
  • Proficiency in medical billing software and practice management systems (e.g., Nextgen).
  • Strong knowledge of medical insurance billing, coding, and reimbursement procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and negotiation abilities.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality.
